1 - Introduction

Please let us introduce Walshy’s SportsPad to you. Open since April 2016, we are an independent company – backed by LCFC legend Steve Walsh -  who have opened a venue on Braunstone Gate in Leicester, with the aim to bring sports simulation to the public. With a state of the art 5m wide multi-sport simulator, your group can enjoy and compete against each other in a wide range of sports including football, golf, footgolf, hockey, rugby, tennis, cricket and more. We are writing to you to introduce ourselves, and to let you know about our team building events, which are ideal for either internal or supplier days. The SportsPad is also a great venue for an informal social event!

Imagine a team-building day without the mud, the cold, the reluctance of staff members to get involved.  At Walshy’s SportsPad, we provide the perfect solution to some of the problems companies encounter when trying to engage their people in a morale-boosting get-together, as well as a rewarding social experience.

We can personalise your experience in a number of different ways depending on what you’re looking to achieve. We will help organise the players into teams of 2 to 5 people, and run a series of challenges based around football (penalties, targets, crossbar challenge), golf (longest drive and nearest the pin), rugby conversions or drop goals, hockey, tennis, footgolf nearest the pin, or even gaelic football and NFL! We’ll keep the scores up to date after each challenge on the master scoreboard, and can incorporate double points for a nominated team member, or kicking with the wrong foot! The possibilities are endless.

We have hosted events for companies such as Sky Business and the NX Group, who’s feedback was “If you’re looking for a venue for team-building, bonding, competition, enjoyment & fun, then @YourSportsPad is the place #challenge. Neil Powell, NX Group Annual Management Meeting”

2 - Suitability

All the games in SportsPad can be adjusted to the ability of the player, so it really is suitable for all ages. We have had birthday parties for 4 year olds and a 90 year old in playing golf! Equally, the games are great for both ladies and gents, and the way that we could structure the event means that everyone is able to contribute towards the team goal.

3 - Number of players and length of booking.

Team Building events at the SportsPad are ideal for groups of up to 20 players, and the length of the booking is entirely up to you. We have a matrix in place which combines number of players with the number of game modes played, and this leads to recommend booking length of:

  • Up to 8 players – between 2 and 4 hours
  • 9-12 players – between 2.5 and 5 hours
  • 13-16 players – between 3 and 6 hours
  • 17-20 players – between 3.5 and 7 hours.

This gives time for introduction, team picking and breaks, and you are welcome to use our 5m screen for any team presentations you may wish to give. As we price the event by the hour, while we may make recommendations of structure, the day is really yours and the day can be fluid so that your goals are met. For example, you may want to introduce business / logic challenges before the challenges which affect the points scoring potential, which will reduce the time spent on the simulator, but may add more value to your event. More of that later in the Example of Event Structure section

4 - Game Modes

We could use a wide range of sports and game modes for your events, which would give everyone the opportunity to play their favourite sports. We could either structure the event so that everyone in each team plays each event, or each team could select part of the team to play each challenge. This way the team have to work out who would be relatively strong at each event…. Some of the game modes we could use include:

  • Football
    • Penalties
    • Points Wall
    • Free Kicks
    • Ten-Pin Football
  • Tennis serving
  • Cricket Run Outs
  • Hockey Points Wall
  • Rugby Conversions or Drop Goals
  • NFL touchdown pass
  • Footgolf nearest the pin
  • Golf Longest Drive or Nearest the Pin
  • Golf Putting
  • Basketball
  • Gaelic Football Points Wall

Within these game modes there is also the opportunity for elimination style events or ‘wrong foot’ challenges, bonus points etc.

5 - Examples of Event Structures.

We could run two different types of events as follows:

1 - The most simple structure is where teams are allocated by the event leader, and each team member gets to contribute to each challenge. A good twist on that is where each player is allowed to nominate one of the events as their ‘joker’ and they score double points for that event. We would have a points structure such as follows:

For example for 12 players, scoring is as follows: 20 points for 1st place, 15 for second, then 12 for 3rd, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, down to 1 for 12th place. All of the team points are added up, and the winning team get a 10 point bonus. So if team 1 finishes 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th, they score 20+10+7+6 = 43 points (and most likely the 10 bonus points. If team 2 finishes 3rd, 8th, 10th and 11th, they score 12+5+3+2 = 22 points and so on. The points are added up after each challenge. It does get really competitive! Don’t worry about the scoring, we’ll take care of that!

2 - A more elaborate structure takes leadership, communication and negotiation skills into account. An example of the way this would work for 4 teams of 4 is as follows:

  1. There are six different challenges.
    1. Golf Longest Drive
    2. Football Penalty (Goal Striker)
    3. Rugby Points Wall
    4. Hockey Points Wall
    5. Footgolf Nearest the Pin
    6. Golf Putting Competition.
  1. Each player picks 4 challenges that they want to compete in, and one of these challenges is nominated for double points.
  1. Each of the challenges are then played, and the results are as follows:

1st place = 15 points, 2nd place = 10 points, 3rd = 8 points, 4th = 6 points, 5th = 4 points, 6th = 3 points, 7th = 2 points, 8th = 1 point.

  1. Clearly, if a lot of players pick a certain game, then not everyone will score, so it might be a good idea to pick games that you think other players might not choose, alike Game Theory!
  1. We could also add a twist whereby each team nominated one game mode for half points for another team, and the points are adjusted for players who choose the nominated game!
  1. After all of the challenges have been played, the team with the most points is the winner.
  1. We will of course run through and agree the format with the team leader before the event, as it can be pretty complicated. However, this format does have the benefit of testing real life business skills, and is our recommended format.

6 - Refreshment Packages

While we can be flexible with our refreshment packages to include drinks from the bar, our standard packages are as follows:

  1. Unlimited Tea, Coffee, Water and Biscuits @£5.00 per person
  2. Hot bacon or Sausage Sub and Orange juice (for a.m. bookings) @ £5.00 per person

7 - Event Prices

Our standard prices for running your event, which includes exclusive venue use for your group, competition sheets, all challenges fully run and explained are as follows:

Groups of up to 8                             £55 per hour

Groups of 9-12                                   £60 per hour

Groups of 13-16                                £65 per hour

Groups of 17-20                                £70 per hour.

Again, all of these prices are exclusive of VAT.
